Turnaround is the one place Function beats the at-home services outright. Once you add shipping, a SiPhox result arrives about two to three weeks after you order (up to 3 days for the kit to ship, 3 to 5 days in transit, an overnight return and 7 to 10 days at the lab). Rythm's lab is faster, and its kit ships in one to two business days. If you need a number this week, a walk-in lab draw is still the quickest route.

What to look for in any alternative
- The draw you will actually do. The best panel is useless if you keep postponing the lab visit. Be honest about needles and travel.
- Frequency. One baseline a year suits most healthy adults. If you are changing diet, starting a statin, or on hormone or GLP-1 therapy, you want to retest within three months.
- Real yearly cost. Include shipping, home-draw fees, required memberships and add-ons, then divide by the markers you care about, not the headline count.
- Who reads the results. Function, Everlywell, Mito and Rythm include some clinician review; SiPhox and InsideTracker do not by default. Either way, take anything out of range to your own doctor.
- Your state. Function excludes Rhode Island and Hawaii, SiPhox excludes New York and Hawaii, and several services charge more in New York and New Jersey.

If a Quest draw does not bother you and you test once or twice a year, Function is still the best value on our scoring (8.3 out of 10). Some readers combine them: Function once a year for the full baseline, and an at-home test in between to check the two or three numbers they are working on.
A worked example: someone whose first Function draw shows high ApoB starts a diet change or a statin with their doctor. Function's next draw is three to six months away and then nothing until the next membership year. Two at-home SiPhox tests in between ($298) show whether the change is working, without extra lab trips.
