InsideTracker review: the verdict

InsideTracker is one of the oldest names in consumer blood testing, founded in 2009 by scientists from MIT and Tufts, and it is built for people who train. The Ultimate test covers up to 54 biomarkers, including ApoB, HbA1c, insulin and hs-CRP, and turns them into detailed food, supplement, exercise and sleep recommendations that can pull in DNA and wearable data.

It is expensive. $489 buys the $149 membership and one Ultimate test, which is about $9.06 per biomarker, four times Function Health's rate. Each extra test is $340 for members. We score InsideTracker 6.2 out of 10: good science and recommendations, weak value.

• Mobile draw required in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii, Arizona and Canada, so the real price there is $119 higher per test.
• Extras: an independent review lists a DNA test at $249 and InnerAge biological age at $99; we could not confirm these on the store today.

What InsideTracker tests

InsideTracker's store says the Ultimate test covers "up to 54 biomarkers" across 10 healthspan categories; its own ApoB announcement says "up to 48", so the count depends on the version. Across InsideTracker's announcement and an independent review, the Ultimate panel includes glucose, HbA1c, insulin, a lipid panel with ApoB, hs-CRP, total and free testosterone, TSH, cortisol, vitamin D, ferritin, iron, B12, folate, magnesium, creatine kinase and a blood count.

InsideTracker does not publish a current full list on its store, and we did not find Lp(a) or thyroid antibodies listed. If those matter to you, ask before buying.

That matters because the National Lipid Association's 2024 update recommends measuring Lp(a) at least once in every adult. If you have never had it measured, a service that includes it (Function, Superpower or SiPhox's default panel) covers it in the same draw.

InsideTracker's strength is how it frames the markers it does test. Each result is scored against an "optimal zone" for your age, sex and activity level rather than just the lab's normal range, and the app turns that into a short list of food, supplement, exercise and sleep changes. For athletes, markers such as creatine kinase, ferritin and cortisol read against training load are useful in a way a general health panel does not attempt.

How InsideTracker works

1. Buy a plan and book a draw at a Quest location, or add a $119 mobile phlebotomist.
2. Give a venous blood sample.
3. Results arrive within 7 business days of the draw.
4. The app scores each marker against an "optimal" zone for your age, sex and activity, and builds an action plan. It syncs with Oura, Apple Health, Garmin, Whoop and others, and an AI guide answers questions.

Recommendations come from InsideTracker's algorithm rather than a doctor's review. Talk to your own doctor about anything outside the lab's reference range.

InsideTracker reviews and complaints

On September 29, 2026 InsideTracker had 4.0 out of 5 from 617 Trustpilot reviews, with 70% five-star and 13% one-star. Only 17 reviews came in the last 12 months, so the rating mostly reflects older experience.

• Praise: personal, research-backed recommendations and helpful named support staff.
• Complaints: app usability, unanswered emails, prepaid tests expiring, and customers who paid a one-time fee being moved onto a subscription.

Is InsideTracker worth it? The yearly cost at each cadence

Add $119 per test for a mobile draw, and $119 is unavoidable in New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Hawaii and Arizona. InsideTracker's markers per test (up to 54) sit between SiPhox's default panel (31) and Function's first draw (about 100), but its price per test is the highest of the three.

Who InsideTracker suits

• Good fit: endurance athletes, lifters and people who already log training, sleep and heart rate on a wearable and want their bloodwork read in that context, with DNA as an option.
• Poor fit: anyone buying mainly for heart-disease prevention, where Function's Lp(a), particle and antibody coverage gives more for less; and anyone who wants to avoid a venous draw.
• Already have recent labs? The membership accepts uploaded results from your doctor. The store sells the $149 membership on its own for international customers; ask whether that option is open to you in the US.
