Home Blood Test Guide

How we review at-home blood tests

Every service we score is rated out of 10 using the same five criteria. The weights reflect what matters most to someone paying for their own bloodwork.

Criterion Weight What we look at
Biomarker coverage 25% How many markers, and whether they include the ones with the strongest evidence for prevention: ApoB, Lp(a), HbA1c, fasting insulin, hs-CRP, kidney and liver function, thyroid, sex hormones where relevant.
Cost per biomarker 25% The real yearly cost including shipping, renewals and required memberships, divided by the number of markers you receive. See our calculator.
Collection experience 20% Venous draw at a lab, mobile phlebotomist, upper-arm device or finger prick. Convenience, pain and the rate of failed or partial samples.
Lab quality and transparency 15% CLIA certification and CAP accreditation, published validation against standard venous testing, physician review of results.
Results and follow-up 15% Turnaround time, clarity of the report, recommendations, retest options and how easy it is to cancel.

Research versus hands-on testing

Each review states whether it is based on hands-on use of the product or on research into the company's documentation, published studies and verified customer reviews. We do not present research as first-hand experience.

Keeping scores current

When a company changes its price, panel or collection method we rescore it and update the date on the page. Read our editorial policy and see the SiPhox Health review for an example of the method in use.
