Which blood test should I get? Take the quiz

Six questions about what you want to learn, how often you want to test and how you feel about needles. You get one recommendation with the reasons behind it, the yearly cost, and an honest note when a lab-draw membership fits you better.

Quick answer: which blood test you should get depends mostly on your goal and on how often you want to test. For a general baseline or heart risk tested every few months at home, SiPhox Longevity Essentials (31 biomarkers) or Heart & Metabolic (28) at $124 plus $25 shipping fits most people. For thyroid or hormones there are focused panels. If a needle is fine and you only test once or twice a year, a lab-draw membership such as Function Health ($365 a year) gives more markers for the money. The quiz below makes that call for you.

How the quiz decides

The quiz uses four rules, applied in this order. We publish them so you can check the logic rather than trust a black box.

  1. Goal picks the panel. Heart risk goes to Heart & Metabolic (ApoB, Lp(a), full lipids, HbA1c, hs-CRP plus kidney and liver chemistry). A general baseline goes to Longevity Essentials, the only core panel with lipids, ApoB, Lp(a), HbA1c, hs-CRP, TSH, vitamin D, ferritin and sex hormones together. Thyroid goes to Thyroid Focus (TSH, free T4, free T3 and both antibodies). Hormones go to Hormone Focus (testosterone, SHBG, estradiol, progesterone, LH, FSH, prolactin, DHEA-S, plus PSA for men). GLP-1 users go to GLP Optimization. The widest screen goes to Ultimate 360 (62 markers).
  2. Needles and frequency decide at home or lab. If you are happy with a needle and only want one or two tests a year for a broad screen or baseline, we recommend a lab-draw membership instead. Function Health lists 160+ tests a year for $365 and Superpower 150+ for $349: more markers per dollar than any at-home kit. SiPhox wins when you want no needle or want to retest every one to three months.
  3. Budget sets the cadence. A SiPhox test costs $149 with shipping ($124 for the first test), plus $125 for Ultimate 360 or $75 for GLP Optimization. If your chosen frequency costs more than your budget, the quiz tells you the most often you can test within it.
  4. Age and sex add notes. Men 45 and over get a note about PSA; women testing hormones get a note that cycle hormones depend on the day of the cycle; people 45 and over asking about heart risk get a note on kidney and liver markers.

Two limits apply to every SiPhox pick: it does not ship to New York or Hawaii, and it is a wellness service with no doctor review included, so take anything flagged to your own clinician. See our SiPhox Health review for the full picture.

Worked examples

A 52-year-old man worried about heart risk, needle-averse, quarterly, budget $600 to $1,200. Heart & Metabolic, four tests a year: $124 for the first and $149 after, $571 a year. It measures ApoB and Lp(a) every time, plus kidney and liver chemistry that matters if he starts a statin. The quiz adds a note that PSA is on Hormone Focus and Ultimate 360, not on Heart & Metabolic.

A 34-year-old woman who wants a broad baseline once a year and does not mind a needle. The quiz recommends a lab-draw membership: Superpower at $349 or Function Health at $365 a year gives 150 to 160+ results, against 62 for a single SiPhox Ultimate 360 test at $274. Compare them in Function Health vs Superpower.

A 41-year-old woman with fatigue and a family history of Hashimoto's, twice a year, under $300. Thyroid Focus twice a year costs $273, inside the budget, and includes TPO antibodies, ferritin and free T3.

Frequently asked questions

Which blood test should I get for a general checkup?

For most adults, a panel with a lipid profile plus ApoB, HbA1c, hs-CRP, TSH, vitamin D and ferritin covers the markers with the strongest evidence. SiPhox Longevity Essentials includes all of these (31 biomarkers). If you want kidney and liver chemistry too, Heart & Metabolic or Ultimate 360 adds them.

Is a lab-draw membership better than an at-home test?

For the most markers per dollar once or twice a year, yes: Function Health and Superpower give 150 to 160+ results a year for $349 to $365. An at-home test like SiPhox wins if you want no needle and no lab visit, or want to retest every one to three months.

How often should I get blood work?

For a healthy adult with normal results, once a year is common. If you are changing diet, training or medication to move a number such as LDL, ApoB, HbA1c or testosterone, retesting every three months shows whether it is working.
